Costochondritis- Personal Assistant

Okay, so we all know that having Costochondritis or any other ailment is really tough on you and the loved ones around you. For instance, cleaning REALLY freaking hurts.

So one day, I was so flustered because I had just cleaned and was in so much pain- then a light bulb came on inside and I thought, "I really need a personal assistant." Then I laughed at myself....then I was like "wait a minute....hmmmmm...."

I can't spend a lot of money like a lot of us reading this post, but I could use the money I use to have to go out or buy clothes to make life a little bit easier. So my hubby and I put an ad out at church about looking for a college student who wanted to clean our apartment and be a personal assistant. I live near a college and knew tons of great kids are always looking for odd jobs.

They need really flexible hours and are great with $10-14 an hour. I got a bite really quick and yesterday I hired Kristin for 2 1/2 hours. It was such a blessing and just awesome! She cleaned the place. Then we quickly went through a list of things I needed done (that I can't do because of lifting things). We got tons done and the best part? For the first time in 3 years, our apartment and car were clean, and my costo wasn't worse. Consequently, I'm going to have her come every week for just a couple of hours to clean, help me cook, run errands, etc.

I have no clue what your personal financial situation is. But if you are able to hire someone for just a couple of hours a week to make your life more peaceful, it may be worth a go.

Cheers, Lucy

  1. I'm so glad you got that part of your life worked out. Vacuuming is a 3 Advil sort of activity for me and we have a big house.

I have this strange aversion to asking for help since, "the good news is, you aren't going to die, it's just a painful annoyance." (said by every doc I've seen).

I've decided that the doctors never really see the bad cases like yours and others I've read about, because they virtually given up on going to the doctor.

Glad you have gotten some relief. A clean house and no pain is definitely a win-win situation!

  2. Vacuuming is NOT fun, but in my opinion dusting is the worst! All those hard to reach places...youch! I think the parents are finally understanding that I am physically not able to dust anymore...it's not an excuse I swear! :P

  3. Cee Cee, I'm with ya, I have a really hard time asking for help as well. My pride has so gone out the window with Costo, lol. =)

bw26, thanks for your comment! You are right, dusting is AWFUL!!

Hope you both have a better day tomorrow than today.
    Hugs,
    Lucy

  4. I have a real blessing, my best friend cleans houses for a living and comes to spend the day with me every Monday and Friday and will clean whatever I ask her to. I try not to abuse the privilege. My biggie is laundry, carrying it up and down 2 flights of stairs (3 level house). Everyone should have a best friend like Mel, who came and drove me to PT when I was too foggy to drive yesterday.

  6. You'll never go back! If loving a cleaning lady/personal assistant is wrong, I never want to be right!!! Haven't figured out how to tell Adam that when this is all over that the cleaning lady is staying....lol. Girl, you are just learning how to make life easier and enjoy LIFE.

  8. I, unfortunately, AM the cleaning help for my job -- I work in a salon, dusting shelves, wiping mirrors, and taking out trash, and it only pays $100 a week. I can't very well take off from my job to heal, so I have to make due with trying to elevate myself with whatever I'm cleaning and using my arms instead of my shoulders to move.
